Hands down for this Cajun boil! We stopped on July 4 when downtown New Haven was pretty much dead. To our delight, it was open and still honoring their Thursday special which is a great snow crab combo. We had the snow crab special with house special blend which is a mix of all spices and herbs on the menu with regular spicy level. I was wearing a nice dress that day but I didn't have to worry at all. I was provided an apron, a pair of gloves and some wet towels. It was only 15 minutes after we ordered, we were ready to dive into our boiled seafood. It smelled so amazing when the magic bag was opened, all these spices and fragrances were unleashed. Everything was cooked perfectly and the sauce was just the right amount of seasoning and spice level. We could tell the ingredients were super fresh and nice quality. Our snow crab was so sweet and tender. Once cracked, we were able to pull out the whole leg meat without breaking it. The body meat was quite enjoyable too. And with the special deal, the combo came with two slabs of crab legs so my hubby and I could indulge one each for ourselves. I'd prefer heads on shrimps once the head butter adds so much umami flavor. Although the shrimps were shelled and devained, they were all jumbo size and plump. The chef must have boiled them very carefully since none of the seafood was overcooked. Every Cajun boil meal comes with corn on the cob, potatoes and sausage.
I'm definitely going to be return customer. If you come here, try to take advantages of their weekday specials and let the rich flavors and spices excite you. -

"Forget traditions, just make food delicious".
Ugly Delicious Season 1 Episode 4: "Shrimp and Crawfish" pretty much sums up what Boiling SOHO is doing here. I love this place and will keep coming back and trying different flavors. -

It wasn't terrible, but was not good either. Just all around okay. In hindsight, we're thinking maybe we ordered the wrong thing. We should've gotten some sort of seafood boil, they seem popular. We instead got the lobster tail & steak and the snow crab & steak. It did take a while to come out. Presentation looked really appetizing, but not a lot of flavor. My crab didn't have much taste to it, which makes me think it wasn't boiled in much to any spices. Red Lobster's even taste much better.
The medium rare "steaks" we ordered were cooked all the way through and actually somewhat resembled some sort of patties. We actually returned them, something I never do. The new ones were cooked better, however my new one had such a large tendon through it, the majority of it was actually inedible. To be honest, I call them "steaks" because we weren't completely positive they were real steaks. They seemed more like wholesale frozen imitation steak patties, like what you would get at a cafeteria. Something about them just didn't seem ...right.
Aside from everything, we felt bad for our waitress, who was very nice and apologetic about everything that was wrong with our food. She even offered us a free dessert.
Overall, we both wonder if we ordered the wrong things, maybe there are other items on their menu that would've been better. It's a very strange blend of Japanese and Cajun cooking, and I'm not quite sure it works. I think we should leave Cajun to Louisiana and southerners in this situation! -

We took my daughter here for her birthday dinner on 2/5. It was our first time and we were not sure of what to expect.
The place isn't fancy or anything like that but the food was delicious. I had the 1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb snowcrab and Brazilian lobster tail. It all comes with 2 pieces of corn and 2 potatoes in a bag. My daughter and husband king crab legs instead of the snowcrab. We threw on our bibs and waited and waited and waited, went fishing, returned, ran a marathon and kept waiting. I'm not sure what took so long but the wait was almost unbearably. I could understand if the place was crowded but there was another party of 5 besides my family.
With that being said, the food was really good, fresh and filling. You get your money worth. The waiter was nice and did his best to assure us that our food would come out soon.
